The Bible
The original manuscripts of the Bible are the inspired Word of God revealed to men who wrote infallibly, although verses should be taken in cultural context. The Bible is the standard for faith and conduct and the source of all revealed truth.
God
We believe in the one true God, the Creator of everything, who reveals Himself as the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each being equal in essence and power and, despite their different roles, working in harmony in God the Father's will.
Jesus
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. He is completely God and completely man, and is without sin. He died on the cross for mankind's sins, bearing their punishment, and on the third day was physically resurrected from the dead to bring to pass the purposes of God the Father concerning salvation, so that all who believe in Him might be saved from sin. He rose up to heaven and is now at the right hand of the Father, and He will come again to fully establish the Kingdom of God.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, who convics man of sin and also bring new birth in believers, living in them so that they might walk in holiness. We believe that He gives different spiritual gifts to all who believe, in order that they might live effectively and serve the Body of Christ, which is the Church. We believe that all the gifts mentioned in the Bible are still to be used in the Church today to build up the Body of Christ. Everyone who is born again has the Holy Spirit. However, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a different experience from being born again. It is for empowerment, especially in witnessing. The initial evidence is speaking in tongues as the Holy Spirit gives utterance. The sign of speaking in tongues is the same in essence as the gift of tongues, but different in purpose and use.
Salvation
We believe that God created Adam and Eve without sin according to His likeness, but with the free will to choose whatever path. Adam and Eve sinned wilfully, and thus humans are ruled by sin. Therefore, all have fallen short of God's standard of perfectio, everyone can only be redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ. If not, man will be punished and judged in accordance to his works and be eternally separated from God. Everyone can be redeemed from sin, not by earning one's way with good works, but by putting one's faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His gift of salvation. True faith results in action; after being truly "born again," a person will reflect the results of the new life.
Eternal Judgement
Those who do not choose God's ways and His salvation but choose instead their ways will, together with the devil and his fallen angels, truly have their wish: they will be consigned to Hell, a place of eternal separation from God, which is described in the Bible as a "lake of fire."
Baptism & the Lord's Supper
Believers should be baptised in water by immersion, symbolic of the death and resurrection with Jesus Christ. Only those who are born again and trust in the Lord Jesus can be baptised in water. The Lord's Supper is given to us in remembrance of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we will partake of this memorial of His suffering and death until He comes again.
Healing of the Sick
We believe that it is the Lord's will to heal Christians when they are sick, unless the time has come for us to be with the Lord. Our church follows the Great Commission of Christ who commanded His disciples to heal the sick, by praying that the Lord will heal them through His power, thereby performing a miracle, of which we have witnessed. Despite believing that the Lord desires to heal the sick, we do not deny that healing can come through medicine or through treatment by a doctor. In some cases healing will occur gradually. At times however sicknesses or hardships may stay if God sees it best for our character and life.
Worship Service
We believe that Christians must worship our Lord God in spirit and in truth. As we worship the Lord, we show that we know the value of our God and are careful to show the proper attitude towards Him during our worship. We believe that active worship, when kept within scriptural guidelines, will help us draw closer to God. We should encourage each other to worship God at all times until it becomes our heart's desire and we truly comprehend its value. Therefore the way we worship should be similar in character to that described in the Bible, such as coming together to participate in worship, using musical instruments during worship, maintaining an atmosphere of freedom in the expression of worship, and experiencing the spiritual gifts as determined by the Spirit to edify the Church. These are all done in a decent and orderly manner.
The Church
We believe that the universal Church consists of people from all over the world who believe and trust in Jesus Christ. People of every age and every era join together as the Body of Christ. In every location there are local churches consisting of believers who join together regularly in organised meetings to worship God, listen to the teaching of the Word of God, fellowship together, testify about their faith to unbelievers, and take part in the Lord's Supper and in prayer meetings. We also believe that Christians must be members of a local church. |
